Today is the first day of my marathon training. What a beautiful day I picked to start as it was a wonder 60 degrees in Chicago (54 by the time I started running). I also got a mapmyrun+ app for my android which has a much better GPS function that the app i was using for my 1/2 marathon training last year. Kat is also training for a 1/2 marathon so initially our running schedules are similar and we both had a 3 mile run today.
3 miles in the forest preserve pushing Aaron in a stroller is harder than just 3 miles. I’m still shocked at how much work your arms actually do for you when you are running and not having them throws off stride and breathing but I don’t mind getting used to running like this because when i’m not pushing the stroller I should be better. We did 3 miles in 40 minutes which is about a 12 minute mile. Not bad for an official kick off training run pushing a stroller in the dark. Kat could probably go faster by about 3 minutes, I know I can go faster initially but the cold eventually begins to mess with my lungs around the 1/2 mile mark and again at the 2 mile mark. This is just something I need to push through as the body is willing, i just need to get some breath under me.
I got home and instantly popped in X2 yoga
I have to admit, yoga is hard when you kinda don’t want to do it, a baby is buzzing all around you and smoke alarms are going off while you’re trying to be calm and focused. This was not my best outing but I got a solid stretch and managed to focus and work on some of the areas I know I need to work on, like Crow, bound warrior and warrior 3. I can tell i’m getting stronger and more flexible so I’ll keep working on it and see what happens.
Tomorrow is a 5 mile run and X2 mobility and recovery. and i need to do some final study for my turbo-kick class on Thursday. This year is busy already but I make sure to find time (sometimes FIGHT for time to get my workout done).
Keep pushing play, we are getting fit and healthy one hour at a time. This year started out great, let’s keep that going.
