Saturday finds me teaching a growing P90X class for the Salt Creek park district in Palatine.
The class is getting stronger! More push ups and better quality push ups, more and better everything. Even people who just joined the class last week are looking better this week.
Train properly and consistently and there is no way you won’t see improvements. I have a team put together and we are entered in the area wide “biggest loser” contest with the winning team getting 5K in new equipment for the district. I think/know that we are going to win.
You can’t train with me and not see a difference, and i’m putting this mentality into the people I am working with. You can’t train and not expect an improvement.
Keep that attitude in everything you do and notice how fast life get’s better!
I’m starting Insanity: The Asylum on Monday and i’m also starting a new turbo class that i’m teaching for our fitness initiative at work! I’m also going to start doing Video Blogs for Asylum so let’s see how that goes :)
Last year I got fitter, this year i’m making a more concerted effort to pay it forward to others.

First session at the park district for this year and it started with a BANG!
P90X/Insanity hybrid class is awesome with people pushing and excited about doing it! I love a group that had energy.
We are going to put a team together and do a local biggest loser contest between our’s and other park districts. I already know we are going to win because I’m cool like that AND my team is going to be awesome and wants to do this for the joy of getting fit and healthy.
8:30 workout was running people though the paces to do a fit test and get a baseline for the 8 week session.
9:30 workout was TURBO TIME!!!! I haven’t taught turbo in a few months because the class go cancelled due to low turnout. I’m trying to turn that around by adding the fun and energy back into it. It’s my goal to make the words TURBO-TIME and instant excitement button in the people who workout with me. Getting P90X and Turbo-kick certified continue to be one of the best things I’ve done in the last few years. I can’t wait to get an Insanity certification!
So 3 more days of Insanity and I’m done! Running the Disney next weekend and then moving on to Asylum!
This year is going awesome so far, God is good, my body is working at levels I want it to, now I need to just keep the buzz going
I taught my Saturday class at the park district today and instead of doing a P90X/Insanity hybrid, I just taught straight Kenpo X.
This is my first time teaching Kenpo X and it went really good! I mean, it’s not that difficult and I have done martial arts in one form or another my entire life so it wasn’t a matter of me not being able to teach it, it’s more of a I don’t like Kenpo X. It’s like a bastardized version of a martial art…which it should be because it’s a P90X version of it. I just still get annoyed doing the wrong punches and kicks and blah blah blah
i’m a snob…bite me.
Tomorrow is suppose to be a recovery day but since i’m 3 days behind in my workout, i’m just going to workout and get it done. 10 more days of Insanity! Then a 1/2 marathon at Disney then…

30 days of Asylum that is going to lead into 30 days of Asylum 2
I love starting the year off with a bang. Last year started with the Disney 1/2 Marathon and I kept working out and training from there. This year is going to be even better (this year being 2013, i’m so excited i’m just skipping the next few days). Ok, I need a shakeology!

See you tomorrow!
Day 47, I took a rest day Yesterday but if I had looked at the schedule ahead of time I would have totally not.
So I taught my usual Saturday class today and we did P90X Core Syn because I figured my legs could use a break from the jumping and it would be good to work on the core. Kat did the Insanity workout and as I watched her, I realized she was doing Core balance and power
NO WAY
Yes way, today’s scheduled workout was Cardio Power and Balance….30 minutes of easy work on the core.
I”m doing Core Synergistics, 60 minutes of not easy work on the core. I totally lucked out today!
Oh well, my class did an amazing job of working hard and getting the burn needed to build muscle.
One more week of Insanity in the books and i’m moving on to week 3 of month 2 starting tomorrow.
Marathon is in 3 weeks! Time is flying by
Stay healthy and have a merry christmas!

Last two days of my P90X round and I have been relatively quite the last two weeks. Noting is wrong, the last two weeks have just been rather uneventful. I had an excellent workout session last week, this week has been kind of phoning it in. In my defense, I had to go to the doctor for a sinus infection and got on antibiotics which for me, is slow poisonous torture. The longer I’m on them, the weaker I get so the last 5 days of working out has not been exhausting.
LIKE my fitness page on face book. I’m still building it but it’s going to be here that I track specific goals and numbers and blah blah…give me a like, the more I get the faster I will finish putting it together (encouragement is always good)
Overall I’m happy with my 3rd graduating session of P90X. I need to do measurements on Saturday night but I already know I got smaller. I’m wearing dress slacks that I haven’t fit in 6 years, I”m wearing T-shirts that I haven’t worn in since ‘99 (Why I still have them I don’t know but don’t judge me!).
I had specific goals doing P90X this time and they were based of me becoming certified and wanting to run through the program again with fresh eyes. I did that

I put into practice the tools I learned, examined the activities and what was happening to my body during the workouts and paid more attention to how training felt when I hadn’t eaten properly. I should’ve known this but i’m still shocked how different a workout goes when I don’t eat well the night before vs a good dinner.
I also did this training while training for the Chicago Marathon, which everyone told me I was nuts for doing since P90X breaks you down so much physically…but I pulled it off (I won’t do both again but at least now I know i CAN do it…lol).
I have one more workout, tomorrow, which should be Kenpo-X but since i’m actually teaching P90X this Saturday it will be something different, but that last workout will be close out this 90+ days. Now comes a new set of goals and a new 120 days of training.

I have specific goals for Insanity this time around. Since running the marathon, I haven’t wanted to go out and run much, especially in the cold but I still want to doing 5k’s, 10k’s and 1/2 marathons…ok and another marathon. I’ve done reading on how some people completely trained for a marathon by only doing insanity. I’ve already built up my legs to handle the pounding of a 26.2 I just don’t want to run in the cold so i’m thinking this is going to be GREAT to keep me in shape to do the Disney on Jan 6th
I’m approaching Insanity this time with a fresh view as well. My cardio is currently through the roof, I know this because I did an insanity workout this morning and it wasn’t to bad, this means I get to focus more on the moves and form and worry less about dying for lack of oxygen :) I also want to do something different with my diet and eating for the rest of the year.
I have already kind of started with the last few days being a modified Shakeology cleanse:

The difference being, when I want to eat, I do it but i’m eating clean…almost vegan level (it easier to do this when the wife and kid aren’t home telling me they don’t want what i’m cooking). I’m calling this my nutrient packing phase as everything going into me is awesome and i’m feeling the results.
During the next 60 days I want to eat much cleaner and push a plant based diet as far as I can take it without having to claim to be vegan (Thanksgiving, all bets are off). This is going to be interested.
So that’s the plan…I’m doing the Insanity fit test on Sunday and Monday it’s balls to the wall sweat! I’m going to be saying good-bye to Tony Horton for a bit (other than teaching P90X classes) and will be doing P90X2 starting in March. There’s the plan, I have goals. Honestly, I have planned out my entire next year of workouts including a summer of turbo-fire (I’m still teaching turbo-kick).
So there you have it. If you stuck with me during this you are now a P90X graduate…as of tomorrow. Who’s coming with me to Insanity next week?

Yoga was kind of difficult this morning. I’ve had a really really really stiff neck the last few days, almost as if I had whiplash…without the car wreck. I think I had an allergic reaction to a type of tea I drank but anyway…
Yoga with a stiff neck and body is not a fun yoga. If you do it right, it’s still a good yoga but not fun. I did it right and it hurt but I feel better and looser.
I keep saying I want to get more involved with Yoga and I think, starting in Nov as I kick off 60 days of Insanity, I will also find a yoga studio and just go for it. If I like it enough, I know someone that is doing an instructors course starting in Feb and I may jump in on that. Being a muscular guy, Yoga is not always the easiest thing to do but it’s needed. Flexibility, concentration and breathing all in one exercise is pretty much everything the body needs to stay healthy. What more can a person ask for?
I know!

Glamour muscle day! Shoulders, bi’s back, the muscles that give you the nice athletic shape. Followed by a complete round of ab ripper X. This one has been a long time coming and I can finally do a full round of it again. There is still a little pain in the groin muscle when I do Fifer scissors, crunch frogs, bicicles and in and outs…basically the first 4 exercises, but I’m good!
I’ve been feeling really good with this weeks workouts, I think I’ve finally built up enough energy and internal motivation that i’m blasting through the fall blah’s and i’m ready to hit Novembers Insanity Challenge with all guns blazing!
You really should consider being part of my Insanity Challenge, We will start Nov 5th and will be done Jan 5th BUT you’ll pretty much cram in a year’s worth of working out in 60 days blasting through any bogus new year resolutions that all your friends are going to be making. Be ahead of the curve and let’s do this!
Message me and join my team! I’ll be sending out a team email soon and maybe even a video but lets get this done!
Nov 5th! I know it’s short notice but this if for people who want to make a change and are going to do it NOW! So many times we want to do something and then think about it to long and talk ourselves out of doing it. Order now, order today and lets do this! Just click on the Shaun T

Plyo-X! I’ve been skipping this one because I was running and teaching turbo on Tuesdays and there was no point in doing this as well. First time back in about a month and I got a great sweat and MUSCLE workout doing this.
Since running the marathon, activities that used to tax my lungs are now taxing my muscles more and my lungs and breathing are barely being touched. I think this is a good thing, I have to push harder now but it feels good!

(What makes it so funny is most of these are things Tony ACTUALLY SAYS during the workout…the man is nutz)
This workout has helped me decide that i’m going to be in Shaun-T world for the next 120 days!
I’m going to start Insanity in November and that will take me through the start of January

I’m then going to do Insanity: The Asylum vol I in Jan-Feb

and i’m going to follow that with the just released Insanity: The Asylum vol. 2

This will take me through March, most of the winter running and hopefully a 2nd marathon soon after.
So that’s my plan moving forward over the next 120 days, I invite you to join me! It’s 9 months until beach season, challenge your body this winter and be ready in 9 months!

I may have been feeling drained two weeks ago but i’m clearly much better now! Over the course of this weekend I taught core syn and followed that with a turbo-kick class on Saturday, walked around Lincoln Park zoo and the city Saturday afternoon, Got up early on Sunday to run the Monster Dash and then walk another few miles around the city and today i’m up early doing P90X Chest and Back!
Now I know it says day 71 but I only have one more week of P90X after this. I decided that since I did the recovery week at the beginning of the month (during that marathon week) I’m not going to do it at the end of the month and I can just roll into my next workout (Always thinking!”

I am a little sore this morning, my right quad/ back of the knee and my arms and shoulders. Why arms and shoulders? Because during the run, Aaron decided he wanted to run with us. Imagine a little two year old child running and keeping up with us (That’s my boy!) But then decided he needs to be carried. I tossed him on my shoulder and carried him for about 1/2 a mile…a few times…thus i’m sore

Yesterday was a beautiful day for a run and as we were dressed in our Green Lantern outfits, this was the first run I’ve done since the marathon and everything that old guy and the lady told me seems to ring true. I didn’t feel like running anymore until I ran this and now i’m getting excited about some upcoming runs and the Disney in Jan.
I know, I know, you want to hear about P90X. There isn’t much to say right now as this is my last two weeks. These are the i’m ready to move on to something else workouts that you need to do because you’re working on form and definition now. Focus on diet and completing the workouts and if you’ve come this far, you’ll be a graduate in two weeks!
What’s important is how are you going to maintain what you’ve worked 90 days to get? Are you going to start a new round of P90X or move onto something different? I’m not sure what my next workout will be, I’ll have it solidly figured out by this time next week but I’m more than likely moving on to something different…for a time.
With two months left in the year, i’m leaning towards a 60 day Insanity Challenge or maybe I’ll do Insanity: Asylum for Nov and Insanity: Asylum 2 for December….decisions decisions. The important thing is that i’m doing something. When you’ve been really heavy, it’s easy to slack off and slide back into laziness, especially in the fall and winter. Keep active and
Keep pushing play!

I never realized how much I missed and like teaching until I taught my first P90X and then Turbo-kick class at the park district today! The place I had been teaching previously, unfortunately closed due to leasing issues so I took that opportunity to focus on other activities but now that I’m teaching again…wow I missed it!
I taught Core Syn for P90X class and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a group more excited to be in pain. I followed that with Round 51 for Turbo class and it was amazing! Sweat flying, people commenting on how they haven’t had a workout like that in ages. I had one guy in class who promised me that he’s going to drag his buddies to my sessions.
For doing a double workout, I feel surprisingly good. I hadn’t taught turbo in a bit but i’m shocked how easily it comes back when the music starts playing and the energy starts to flow.
Now i’m heading downtown to pick up my pack for the Monster Dash tomorrow and then heading to the zoo.
Have an excellent weekend!
