Back to core is one of those workouts that, on the surface, doesn’t seem to difficult, but you’re going to feel it later. I think whatever is wrong with my shoulder/collar bone involves a slightly strained muscle. Working it this morning was good as i could feel it stretching out and loosening up a bit but now it’s sore again. I think i’m going to take some advil and ignore the pain and maybe get a massage.
I always end up with a slight headache when I work core and I think it’s because i’m tensing to much or something. I know it’s only 3 days in but Asylum is a lot more “enjoyable” this time around than it was the first two. I guess that’s called progress!

Asylum Day 22 -B2C
Today was suppose to be a rest day but I rested yesterday…and Saturday. Gameday literally sucks the life out of me. I tend to get “sickish” the next day with whatever I maybe fighting so there was no way I was getting up on Saturday to do Vertical Plyo (boo me).
Sunday rolled around and I was still feeling sick so I decided to do the official rest day then and I’d do back to core on Monday, which is today. I’m not superman, I have physical breakdowns from time to time. This weekend left me feeling UGH! I can always tell when i’m getting sick because all I ever crave is sugar. (what does that have to do with me doing back to core today? sick with me you shall see).
So between Saturday and Sunday I ate basically nothing but Pizza, cookies, pie, ice cream, Santa cakes, La Croix (yes i’m one of those douche bags that drink La Croix…ironically), Egg nog and more pizza. I should probably be in a sugar coma of some sort.
Monday morning comes and I roll out of bed 30 minutes late and jump directly into my workout. How do you define sluggish? Doing Back to Core after a weekend of indulgence. That being said, I did’t do to poorly. I’m still sore and slow from feeling sick and then eating to make sure I get sick but overall I did well (they say that a lot in soccer, my new favorite sport).
The point to all this being, we all have times when we fall down and fall off a wagon or eat wrong or just feel like crap and not working out. That doesn’t mean you give up and stop working out, you just refocus and jump back in with dedication and determination and drink LOTS of cleansing water. I’m talking so much water that a pregnant woman get jealous of your trips to the bathroom.
One weekend of trash eating is not going to ruin weeks of working out. I’m a tad bloated today but I did the workout and I’m feeling good and i can feel my body correcting my transgressions.
So keep pushing play! 8 more days of asylum!!! This really went by fast!
Asylum day 8
Back to core is good! The stronger my core and back get’s the more I like this workout. I seem to always end up with a headache when i’m finished so I need to look into that.
What I don’t like…it seems like Shan T and the boys decided that this is an underwear optional workout as in the beginning when the jumping is happening, if this was in 3d you’d be in danger of being slapped in the nose. Now that I’ve noticed this AGAIN, it will be distracting for the next few times I do this workout.
I got up about 15 minutes late for this workout session so I didn’t have time to really wake up before I worked out. My level of residual soreness is increasing but not as quickly as it did the first time I did this series back in July. Sometime this week is a relief day, not as good as a rest day but much better than tomorrows Vertical Plyo.
The only thing I feel is lacking from the Asylum workouts is more stretching and yoga. Having done Yoga-X for 90 days and Turbofire Stretch 40, the importance of that strength building, flexibility enhancing yoga session is divine! I’m truly beginning to this that this is the secret ingredient is all top notch workouts. I don’t really remember Asylum: relief but i think it’s “kinda yoga-ish” but I also know it’s very short. (I remember it’s short because i would skip it. When you get up at 4 am to workout, a 20 minute workout doesn’t seem worth it.) I won’t be skipping it this time.
How is your December workout going? I know it’s tough with the time change and the weather change and the lack of daylight but are you sticking with it. Last year this time I was on the verge of massive depression with the lack of sun. This year, i’m working out and drinking my Shakeology which is jam packed with vitamins and minerals and I’m barely noticing the darkness.
Amazing what considerations physical activity and proper nutrition can do for you! IF you haven’t tried Shakeology yet, email me for a sample. It’s the best meal you’ll eat all day!!!
Keep pushing play!!! We have 22 more days left of Asylum and ending the year on a fitness high note! I should be getting P90X2 n the mail TODAY!!!! (fingers crossed). I”m excited at the level of health I have achieved this year and eagerly looking to what 2012 can bring.

Asylum Day 3 and I haven’t been this sore in months. When I workout, sweating is great but if i don’t feel some kind of soreness I don’t think I’ve worked hard enough. This probably comes for years of weight lifting and football coaches in my head screaming with a pinch of Army and martial arts mixed in for good measure. Turbofire showed me that I don’t need to be sore to get a solid workout, Insanity Asylum is reminding me that I like it.
Back to core was on tap for this morning and this was probably the best session I’ve had ever. I was able to do all the activities, in good form, although I still really don’t like doing the jumping jacks in the beginning for the warm. More props to my redheaded workout step child turbo fire. Because of my working with Chalene over the last 90 days, I developed are stronger and more in control core system which allowed me to push harder for Shaun T’s workout this morning. I’m no longer worried about my oblique being injured and I can feel the core muscles working that should be working. If you have an in between time between wanting to start “hardcore” workouts, I HIGHLY recommend doing turbofire for 90 days just to get a sense of change and strengthening without realizing it. (Maybe it was the best workout ever after all).
Now back to Asylum, the best workout EVER! Day 3 back to core when done properly and not trying to rush through the exercise you can feel your mid-section getting leaner as you work it. I missed a chance to workout with Shaun-T about two weeks ago when he was in Peoria, IL. Funny, i’m usually in Peoria on weekend to be with my son and this weekend he was with me in Chicago…go figure. I guess the gods of fitness knew I wouldn’t be ready but next time!
I also did this workout with the music turned off and I don’t like it. The music adds a level in intensity that just listening to people breath hard doesn’t get. I think I may have a new favorite!!! The red head Ariel is a hottie!
That’s all for today, I have a Santa 5k on Saturday and then i’m taking all my racing tags off my desk as the year in running is over. Any runners have ideas on what to do with the tags? I’d love to make something out of them as this was my first year ever doing something like that.
Tomorrow morning is….vertical plyo. Keep pushing play and i’ll see you there.
Remember 27 more days to finish out the end of the year strong and start 2012 IN SHAPE instead of making useless resolutions to promise to do it. No time like the present. Make next year the time to Do Something Amazing

Day 20, I have 10 more days of this craziness! Today was suppose to be my restday and I should have done this workout yesterday. I desperately needed to take a break so I switched my days and rested yesterday on day 19. I didn’t even do my 7 mile run yesterday (I”m debating if I’m going to do it today or not).
This mornings workout was just what I needed to get back into the swing of things. I’ve been feeling sluggish and lazy the last few days and i know it’s because of the weather changing and my diet not being the best and my sinus infection. Saturday, I got meds and started taking them and i’m feeling better. Got a solid sweat going this morning and i’m feeling a bit more alive again. Now i need to fix the diet and I have 10 days to do it.
Can I eat right for 10 days? Lets hope because my body feels the difference in the fuels that i’m feeding it. Chocolate cake, chocolate covered peanuts and pizza are great tasting but do absolutely nothing for my in the long run. Oh well, it’s only been a few days and I can recover. Maybe I will be doing that 7 mile run today…
I had my 9 yr old and his friend with me this weekend and on Saturday they attempted to do Vertical Plyo with me. Love hearing a kid tell you how easy something is and then quitting 30 seconds later out of breathe.
This Wednesday, i’m going to Lifetime fitness to get a fit test assessment done and possibly put together a winter training program since I’m not going to lie to myself and pretend that i’m going to run outside all winter. I’m going to do a lot of swimming and maybe some treadmill but I won’t run much in the bitter cold. I’d love to but I probably won’t.
I’m starting a new round of Insanity (the original) at the end of this workout so…Sept 1 or 2. If you want to do this 60 days with me, Now is the time to order your copy. If I get enough people interested I’ll start a facebook accountability group so we can encourage each other.
Anyway, Back 2 core was good this morning and I can feel the weak muscles n my back working .
Keep pushing play and I’ll see you tomorrow for more Asylum!

Asylum day 12, this was by far the suckiest workout I have done in ages. I’m tired and sore and I think I pulled a muscle in my back. His voice is annoying as all get out when you’re up early and doing jumping jacks.
How many passive aggressive times can he look at the camera and say, “Don’t hate me.” Dude, you’re having me do lunge and hold my arms in warrior 2 and pulse for 2 minutes. Don’t hate you? Trust me, hate is on the nicer end of the spectrum right now. The other difference between Shaun T and Tony Horton is that in P90X, Tony at least gives you a little reach around while torturing you. He tells you there is no pain, you workout and push it but there is no pain. Shaun t? No reach around, no lube just right in there: “WORK THORUGH THE PAIN! I know it hurts but that’s where the results are.” My workout parents are sending me mixed signals. You can’t raise a child this way people!!!
I did not run yesterday becasue my left mid to upper back feels like it has a pull in it. I had my wife rub it and she said it felt like something was out of place, like a rib. I was a tad nervous but I KNOW my body so i figured sleep on it and see what happens. This morning, the pain is still there but its a dull muscle pain. I finished the workout and the pain is actually less. So basically I pulled a muscle and it needs to stretch out.
What to take away from that? Get to know your body. Get to know the difference between Injured and hurt, damage and soreness. It takes awhile to get to this point and sometimes you’re going to have to push through some pain to determine if you’re injured or not but knowing the difference is what helps make your workout off the hook (as Shaun T’s old scool ass would say). Hurt you can work, Injured you need to take a break.
Tomorrow is Strength day, There are not to many rest days in Asylum. It’s hard and tiring but remember to
Just push play!

#asylum #beachbody @shauntfitness yes I hate you but back2 core works great!
This is day 9 of my Insanity:Asylum journey and its not getting any easier. The workout is a series of about 7 different workouts that rotate daily. Last week when I did back 2 core, I think I said it wasn’t to bad. This week doing back 2 core, i’m ready to kill Shaun T.
This is the shortest workout in the set at only 40 minutes but it’s an intense 40 minutes. my shoulders and back are on fire, i’m sweating like usual and drinking water by the gallons. Funny observation, The guys in the video don’t wear underwear when they workout. How do i know? I’ve noticed the same…swing…in myself when I workout because I don’t wear underwear, it gets in the way. I know it’s Monday and I probably should have saved that for TMI Tuesday but we’re all #fitblr family here right? YES I swing like a elephant trunk when I workout!!! Enjoy the visual :)
Great workout, eventhough the power went out in the last 2 minutes…stupid storm. (i’ll act like i’m upset but i’m exhausted so thank god the power went out!).
Keep pushing play, the body is transforming and the results are coming. Make this your summer to get fit. Time for my chocolate shake!
