I ran a 1/2 marathon today! I feel and did pretty decent considering everything. Let’s go over a list of things you shouldn’t do…unless your’e me :) Ever see that episode of How I met your mother when Barney decided to just go out and run the NY Marathon? That was pretty much me today.
1. New shoes and toe socks - never do this before a big run…I know this, I ignored it since I was determined to run in Vibrams and they are pretty much interchangeable. The socks I got yesterday at a sidewalk sale at EREHWON End result - AWESOMENESS, those shoes felt like extensions of my feet. The socks added just enough padding to make up for the fact that…
2. Train for a run - I did not, in anyway shape or form train for this 1/2 marathon. All year I’ve run 2 5k’s and a 10k and that’s been about the extent of my running. What I managed to do today is a result of me teaching Insanity and doing T25 and generally working out hard. My lungs were excellent, my body felt good. The only thing that hurt was my feet and they usually do around mile 7 anyway, they just hurt a little more.
I didn’t turn in the fastest time ever but I finished the race strong, I feel healthy, i’m not wiped out of energy and my feet are recovering. God has blessed me to get stronger and healthier so I can do stuff like this and i’m going to take full advantage of it. There was one sign I read that said ‘Run because someday you won’t be able to.” I got a little chocked up reading that.
How blessed are we with strong bodies and we let them fall apart and then complain and take drugs to correct things that exercise and healthy eating can fix in a few months/years….but that’s not fast enough so we get surgery done to help but the root problem is still there. YOU DIDN’T EARN IT. You lost your health, you should EARN it back and then you will treasure it so much more.
All that being said, I totally didn’t EARN this run, it was a gift and blessing. I workout hard and alot but that is not the same as running. Moving forward, i’m going to train for the Disney in Sept and I need to train harder for the Chicago in Out. I KNOW i can do 13.1 but I can’t let this knowledge keep me from WORKING at it. I wanted to get faster this year and run stronger. I’m running stronger but the only way to get faster is to RUN.
Thank you GOD for blessing me with my health and ability to just decided i’m going to run. Thank you for seeing me through and keeping me strong and fit. Now bless me to train better and harder so that I can continue to DO SOMETHING AMAZING (dsafitness). Amen
So how did I do this? I with a daily diet of Shakeology, Insanity and Focus T25. I know i push this a lot but if CLEARLY works. If you haven’t tried Shakeology and you want to, message me and i’ll get you a sample pack. I’m always looking for new people on my team so sign up for a free account and make me your coach. Get a copy of T25 and change your body with just 25 minutes a day. It REALLY works! When’s the last time you ran 13.1 miles with little to no running prep?
I didn’t run this morning because of the drenching rain. I”m glad I waited as this afternoon was bright and sunny.
3.5 miles on the schedule today and I decided to go to the Deer Park Forest Preserve to knock it out. I”m still doing the Vibram 5 finger adjustment run, which is kind of slow and steady but i’m liking it!
One of my biggest problems last year running was figuring out how to keep a pace and how to relax and run. The vibram adjustment pace is perfect for getting back into running and staying steady. I also have to admit that Bikram Yoga has helped me tremendously in staying patient while i’m running. Nice and steady, just breathe. Funny how everything continues to come back to that.
I ran hills today which is tough on their own but with my legs being a little burned from Combat this morning, hills put a little strain on the system.
Through out this running, I’m not out of breathe, the reason it’s going slow is the body is not ready to run yet and that’s a good thing. Last year I was fighting with either Lungs were ready and body wasn’t or vice versa. I hope to completely avoid that this year by continuing a regular Bikram practice.
Run done. Saturday is another 3.5 and Sunday is a 7 mile run. I have a little over a month to be ready for 13.1, I think I can do it.
Tomorrow morning is another round of Combat and I think i’ll try to get to yoga tomorrow night. If you want to try Combat, it’s on sale right now. Seriously consider it, this is one of the best in home workouts I have ever done.
Finally, the run that had to happen, did.
You can flirt with running by doing a jog here or there but you don’t really start until you form a training program and do that first run in the training program.
That first run, for me, is always the worst but it’s a good worst. It’s muscles and bones shaking off rust and dust and remembering how to move. It’s toes and feet gripping the ground and bending and shifting.
Last year I made the choice to run in shoes and it was ok but my feet always end up hurting for longer than if I run in vibram 5 fingers. This year i’m going to do all my running and training in vibrams. I’ve done 1/2 marathons in vibrams…but not in over a year. this mornings run was slow and re-adjusting to my old friends.
They felt good to run in, I teach my P90X and Turbo-kick classes in them but that’s still not the same as running. I had to shorten my stride and smaller steps as everything adjusts but my legs and feet feel better than when I ran the Zombie Run on Saturday in my Adidas.
Nice slow pace, decent music, 3 bathroom breaks and a train had my 3.6 mile run at 47 minutes. (Side note: It was fun but NEVER drink a bottle of Cherry Chocolate Wine the day before you start running). I was hoping to do my run and then go to morning yoga but I couldn’t get started til about 4:50…thank you wine.
First run done! Tonight i’m doing Combat and then I’m heading to observe two class that I’ll be teaching in the next few weeks. I don’t know if i’ll get yoga in today or not but its on the schedule for tomorrow. My two primary workouts are going to be running and Les Mills Combat, supplemented with Bikram yoga and the classes i’m teaching. That should be enough to keep me moving through the summer.
Now it’s time for a Shakeology and a little stretching before work. Beachbody just redid the Greenberry flavor and it is really good!
I didn’t mind the original flavor….after I got used to it, but the new one is 2nd only to Tropical in my book. If you aren’t drinking Shakeology to help maintain your healthy diet, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!
message me for a sample! Seriously, i”ll send you one or just visit my site and order a 30 day supply and if you don’t like it, EVEN AFTER finishing it all, just send back the bag and get your money back. Healthiest meal of the day, try it!
Have a great one and keep working towards those goals!
I”m starting later in the season than I would have liked but my 1/2 marathon and marathon training began this morning. How do I know it began this morning and this wasn’t just A RUN?
I didn’t want to do it, I got up, got adjusted and started running and fell into the grove I fall into when i’m preparing for something. This is the start. Not the fastest or longest run but it was damn steady and I didn’t pause or stop one time during it.
I couldn’t find my running socks this morning so I ended up running in my vibrams, which was kind of a blessing because I re-adjusted my running and it felt great!
First 3 mile run done…many many many more miles to go
My first run is the Zombie run on June 1st followed by the warrior Dash and who knows what i’ll start to sneak in before or after that.
Tonight is P90X2 Plyocide
I got home from work around 4:30 and had a come to God moment with myself. Yesterday, running in 11 degree weather with a head wind damn near knocked me out for the remainder of the day. I did bounce back to do my Insanity workout but the body is not happy.
Day 2, it’s 22 degrees out but the wind is even colder, i’m sore from this mornings Insanity workout do I really need to do this? I’m only going 2 -3 miles tops, my feet are going to be cold in vibrams and i know it’s not going to be fast…
That’s when motivation and other fitblrs come into play and in my mind flashes:
It’s not easy and frankly, it’s not always fun but it is extremely calming and focusing. I’m running in the cold and the dark with no one but me and my music. My quads are hurting but it’s a hurt I haven’t felt in months. I’m cold to the point where my body is working hard just to keep me cold. I chose this and I had to smile.
I’m not running a scheduled lenght or training for anything in particular, i’m running in the cold because I chose to and I know it’s what my body needs. If you do the same thing, you get the same results. I’m making the choice to change it up a little and run in the cold because I DON’T.
This was not my best run, at times it was barely a trot, but I pushed and I did it.
I have goals for the spring, summer and fall of running but i’m not going to get there sitting on my ass in the winter. I’m running now so that it’s easier in the future.
This is freak’in awesome!
I got up this morning and decided that I need to start running NOW if I want to be ready to run events in Feb and March. I know Disney is in a week but this year, that’s kind of a gimmie fun run for me. Last year I was so focused on finishing it I missed all the pictures and characters, I won’t do that this year.
Anyway, at 7:45 am in 11 degree weather on New Years Day, the streets are EMPTY! I saw the occasional car and one lady walking her dog, but most people are out, and I understand as last night we were up til 1 am with friends.
Not bad for a first run, uphill into a head wind. it was cold…the kind of cold where I couldn’t really sweat and now i’m drenched because my body had to work so hard to keep me….cold.
Shower time and Insanity later today.
Happy New Year
Welp, last night we did 3 miles with me pushing a stroller…with a flat tire…ugh. Kat is training to run the Disney 1/2 marathon with me. I did this run in my vibrams, nice and slow since my calfs are really kind of bothering me. I need more water and more stretching
This morning I work up at 2:30 knowing that I have to do my 4 mile run in the AM as I have school tonight. I tossed and turned and dreaded but I have to get this done. i’m so close to the end. I headed out at 4:40 this morning determined not to push to hard but to get a good run in.
OH MY GOD!
I put out the fastest times I have ever run! This is the first time I have run a sub 10 minute mile in ages. In fact I ran 4.4 sub- 10 minutes miles. I ran sub 4.4 sub 9 minute miles!!!
4.34 miles in 36 minutes! That’s faster than my last 5k! Check it out:
I wouldn’t have believed it if I did do it!
4 months of running, Asylum, doing an Ultimate Reset and P90X and I’m finally fast again! Finishing this run felt like that scene from Rock IV when he climbs the mountain
Chicago Marathon, I’m ready!
Now i need to do some stretching, fortunately today is P90X Stretch X…how is that for timing? See, I really do time all this shit down to the wire :P
